Energy and the Environment 101H
During the spring of my Freshman year I engaged in a challenging honors course called "Energy and the Environment 101H" with Dr. Eser. The class explored not only the topic of energy, but engaging energy through writing and media. Here is a portfolio of all I have accomplished within the course.
Initial Essay:
At the beginning of the course, my professor asked that we explain all that we know about energy, what we want to know, and what we expect from the course. Looking back, it was a great idea to write out what I knew then because today I can proudly say I have learned an immense amount. At the time, I would not have been able to have an intelligent conversation on energy. I believe all should be able to converse on energy given how important it is to society. Today, I am more politically and environmentally active because I have a better stance on the topic of energy.

Reflective Essay:
Throughout the course, Dr. Eser incorporated outside readings into his lectures. As a class, we came together to talk about a specific book called Energy: A Beginner’s Guide. After reading through the entire book, we were asked to write a reflective piece on a topic touched upon in the book. I chose to write about geothermal energy because it is a topic that I rarely hear about. After doing further research, I support further implementation of geothermal energy.

Petroleum:
After briefly learning about each energy source from Dr. Eser, our class split into groups of two to become experts on a given energy source. My partner and I were assigned the topic petroleum. Although we both did not know a great deal on the subject, after extensive research we were both able to present on the topic, create a concept map, write a semester paper on the subject, and create an iMovie.

Final Essay:
Last, to reflect on the entire semester, Dr. Eser asked his students to write a final essay referencing what they wrote about in their initial essay. Surprisingly, all that I wished to learn initially was taught in class, but I also learned more. I learned that in being an active political citizen I must know the truth about the environment. I also gained skills in writing and multimedia which will benefit me in the future. Overall, I am extremely glad to have taken this difficult course.
